PRESENTATION
As part of the project "The forgotten greats: Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco", the concert offers three masterpieces by the great Italian composer, written in the 1930s before his exile in the United States. The two overtures, examples of brilliant and luminous writing, are part of a series dedicated to the immortal dramas of William Shakespeare; the Second Violin Concerto, composed for Jascha Heifetz and premiered by him under the direction of Arturo Toscanini, is inspired by the melopeas and modality of Jewish music and is articulated in three vast frescoes dedicated to the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah and Elijah .
